(Couratari guianensis), also called Brazilian Oak comes from the upland forests in the states of Amazonas, Pará, Roraima and Amapá. It is a phenomenal exotic hardwood that is a great choice for both residential and commercial applications.  The tree itself when freshly cut during it’s optimal age and growth is a smooth creamy white. Although there can be some variation in colour according to it’s species which can vary the heartwood from pink-ish white or yellow-ish grey white. Tauari is most physically similar to the domestic hardwood Beech and Ash. Unlike many other exotic hardwood species, Brazilian Oak is one that does not dramatically darken with sunlight because of it’s naturally creamy and bright tones.

  • It is durable and resists denting and traffic wear well
  • Similar to North American Oak but 13% harder
  • It is a dense, strong timber, ideally suited for floors and a good choice for anyone favouring the current trend towards lighter coloured flooring.
